This morning, Premier Iain Rankin announced $4.8 million in funding to create the African Nova Scotian Justice Institute. The Institute, working with the existing African Nova Scotian Decade for People of African Decent Coalition (ANSDPAD) and the newly formed Office of Equity and Inclusion, will assist people in the African NS community who are in the justice system, conduct research, and help to redesign the NS justice system.

During his statement, Rankin acknowledged his own white privilege and the Provinces need for better representation of the black community in addressing the over-representation of black people in the justice system.
